What would Christmas be without the Christmas songs! In Czech Republic they are an important part of the whole Advent time and the time after Christmas. We bring you a list of the most beautiful Czech Christmas songs!
Czech Christmas Songs
In Czech the Christmas carols are called koledy (koleda in singular). They are called that because children used to go caroling on Christmas Eve (jít na koledu – to go caroling) and for which people would give them sweet treats like fruit, nuts, dried plums and sometimes even Christmas cookies. Nowadays this beautiful tradition is almost lost but the songs live on and you can hear them on Christmas concerts and fairs and in people’s homes especially in Christmas Eve when families gather around the Christmas tree and sing.
